Our Tucson Story

Tom Addis was a sign painter by trade. In 1955 he opened Addis Sign Company in Tucson. Over the years the name became Addisigns, and the work grew from painted signs to every kind of commercial sign a business needs today.

The company is still locally owned. Mike Addis is our CEO, and he personally oversees projects. Kathy Addis is our CFO. Our team is about 20 people strong. Together we have completed more than 3,000 projects for more than 2,000 customers, and we build 24 types of signs.

Under One Roof

The 38th Street Shop

Our shop and office sit at 3808 East 38th Street, Tucson, AZ 85713. Everything we sell is made there. It is a U.L.-certified manufacturing facility, and we keep it equipped with current industry hardware and software.

Having the whole operation under one roof matters. Our designers can walk out to the shop floor to check a detail. Our fabricators can ask the installers how a sign will mount before it is built. When a Tucson customer calls about a repair, the parts, the people and the trucks are all close by.

Local Codes

Tucson Sign Permits, Handled Locally

Sign rules in the Tucson area are not one-size-fits-all. The City of Tucson has its own sign code. Unincorporated Pima County has its own rules. Nearby towns like Oro Valley and Marana have theirs. Size limits, setbacks, lighting and zoning can all change from one parcel to the next.

That is why we keep a permit specialist in-house. Our team has worked with Southern Arizona municipalities for more than 60 years. We prepare the drawings, submit the applications, answer the reviewers’ questions and pursue variances when a project needs one. You do not have to learn the code to get a sign approved.

Desert-Tough

Signs Built for Tucson Weather

Tucson is hard on signs. The sun is strong almost every day of the year. Summer heat is intense. Then monsoon season brings high winds, dust and sudden heavy rain.

We have built signs for this climate for 70 years, and we plan for it from the start.

Weather still takes a toll over time. Our maintenance plans check electrical components, clean faces and make adjustments, so small problems get caught before they become big ones.

  • Sun: we choose faces, finishes and materials with long sun exposure in mind, so colors and logos stay readable.
  • Heat: we plan lighting and electrical components to work in a hot cabinet, and LED retrofits can replace older lighting in existing signs.
  • Monsoon: we plan structure and mounting for wind, and our licensed electricians handle the electrical connections.
